Honouring Our Heroes: Remembrance Day Parades Taking Place Across York Region This Weekend

As November arrives, communities across the GTA come together to honour the brave men and women who have served our country. Remembrance Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by Canadian veterans, active military members and those who gave their lives in the pursuit of peace and freedom.
This weekend, residents in York Region will have opportunities to come together, show their appreciation and participate in local Remembrance Day parades and ceremonies.
Markham Remembrance Day Parade – Saturday, November 7
The Markham District Veterans Association invites residents to attend its annual Remembrance Day commemorations on Saturday, November 7.
The morning will begin with a special service at 9:30 a.m. at the Markham District Veterans Association building, located at 7 Washington Street. At approximately 10:30 a.m., a parade will make its way toward Veterans Square at 6031 Highway 7, where a commemorative ceremony and wreath-laying will take place at 11:00 a.m.
The event provides an opportunity for residents of all ages to gather, honour veterans and recognize the sacrifices that have helped shape the freedoms Canadians enjoy today.
Richmond Hill Remembrance Day Parade – Sunday, November 8
Richmond Hill residents can also take part in a community Remembrance Day parade on Sunday, November 8.
Organized by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 375, the parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the northwest corner of Yonge Street and Wright Street before proceeding south along Yonge Street toward the Richmond Hill Cenotaph at the McConaghy Centre, located at 10100 Yonge Street.
The commemorative ceremony will include traditional tributes, readings and a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m. Residents are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
Why Remembrance Day Matters
Beyond the parades and ceremonies, Remembrance Day serves as an important reminder of the people and stories behind Canada's history. It is an opportunity for families to teach younger generations about courage, sacrifice and the importance of preserving peace.
Whether you attend a local ceremony, wear a poppy or simply pause for two minutes of silence on November 11, every act of remembrance helps keep these stories alive.
As we gather with our neighbours and communities this weekend, let us take a moment to reflect, express our gratitude and honour those who served, and continue to serve, our country.
Lest We Forget.
